OU freshman charged with pilfering backback and computer

11/9/09 – Norman, OK — A University of Oklahoma freshman faces felony charges that he stole another students backpack and laptop from a campus Burger King.

According to court records, Martaize K. Fails, 18, was in the Burger King located inside the Adams Dormitory on October 30 when he absconded with another students backpack containing a Dell laptop and misc. items totaling just over $1,700.

Fails might have gotten away with it too if it wasn’t for those pesky little security cameras that recorded his every thieving move.

Police say when they contacted Fails he refused to return the stolen loot and was arrested.

On November 2 felony charges were filed against Fails.

According to the OU website, Fails is listed as a freshman.

An Internet search shows Fails played high school football at Capitol Hill High School.

Repeat sex offender charged with loitering at youth football game

Repeat sex offender charged with loitering at youth football game

11/9/09 – Norman, OK — Charges are filed against a repeat sex offender after he is found loitering at a Norman park watching a youth football game – more disturbing is the fact he is still on the street at all.

According to court records, on October 11 of this year Joshua Tyrone Shobert, 32, was questioned by Norman police after someone called complaining that a registered sex offender was loitering at Reaves Park. Shobert reportedly told police he was watching his nephew play football.

On November 3rd a single felony charge was filed against Shobert in Cleveland County.

Registered sex offenders being charged with violating the terms of their sex offender status is nothing new. However, based on Shobert’s criminal history, the shocking part of this story is that he has been allowed to remain on the streets at all.

According to court papers, Shobert is a lifetime, level 3 sex offender (highest risk with a likelyhood to re-offend). Shobert’s sexual assault criminal history includes a conviction for fondling on 9/24/99, fondling on 3/19/97, fondling on 3/22/96, lewd molestation of a three year old in 1999, three counts of lewd molestation in 1997 of of children ages seven, five and five, and another conviction for the lewd molestation of a 12 year old in 1996.

The Oklahoma Sex offender Registry lists Shobert’s residence as 6305 NW 10th #10 in Oklahoma City (as of 11/9/09).

On October 30 a warrant was issued for Shobert’s arrest. His bond has been set at $20,000.

OKC firefighter given a pass on drug dealing charges and more

11/7/09 — OKC, OK – An Oklahoma City firefighter accused of felony armed drug dealing is given a free pass by prosecutors in Oklahoma County.

As originally reported on 4/5/07 – Oklahoma City firefighter James Kenneth Frazer, 45, was arrested and charged with three drug related felonies (trafficking illegal drugs, distribution of CDS, and possession of a weapon while committing a felony) in May of 2006.

Only two months later, and while out on $30,000 bond, Frazer reportedly was in a high speed chase from police when they tried to pull him and fellow felon Leshone Farmer, 29, over to question them about a reported theft.

The chase ended near a wooded area several miles later. (read an account by the Daily Oklahoman)

Frazer was booked into the Oklahoma County jail on complaints of receiving or concealing stolen property.

Most law abiding citizens would find comfort in the belief that the Oklahoma criminal justice system would deliver swift and appropriate punishment to an individual engaged in such activities. Not so apparently if you’re a member of the Oklahoma City Fire Department.

On October 14, 2009 Frazer pled guilty to felony possession of a CDS with intent to distribute (aka, Drug Dealer) and felony possession of a weapon while committing a felony. The third charge of conspiracy for unlawful distribution of a CDS was dismissed. And what was this armed felon drug dealer sentenced to? A mere 5-years deferred! No prison, no drug court and no charges for the high speed police chase. I’m sure its all just a coincidence he’s also a firefighter.

Norman man who provided pre-teen with pot and alcohol is on the run

11/7/09 – Norman, OK — A man accused of providing a 12-year old neighbor with marijuana and alcohol is apparently on the run and the presiding judge is none-too-happy.

Originally reported by the OKRA News Blog June 29, 2007 – Gary Allen Campbell, 44, was arrested June 6, 2007 after police discovered a 12-year old neighbor in his apartment who was obviously intoxicated. The boy was transported to the hospital where it was discovered his blood alcohol level was .079.

According to police, the young boy told police that Campbell gave him KD Whiskey and hits of marijuana from a glass pipe.

Campbell was scheduled to appear before a Cleveland County judge on October 28, 2009 but was a no-show (Campbell’s third no-show in this case).

Judge Lucas apparently is not playing around and issued the following order, “bench warrant to be issued, NCIC all states, new bond set at $20,000, not to be lowered or reduced. Defendant to be brought before this judge within 24-hours of arrest.”

Warrant Issued for Burger King Brawler

BK11/7/09 – Norman, OK — A former female Burger King manager who beat up a co-worker for snitching was a no-show in court and a warrant has been issued for her arrest.

Originally reported by the OKRA News Blog July 3, 2007 – Myesha Joy Smith, 22, was a manager at a Norman Burger King on June 14, 2007 when she and a male co-worker were cited $300 tickets for smoking pot on the fast food joints patio (get it? ‘joints’).

Smith and the co-worker suspected another co-worker of ratting them out to the cops. So, naturally they kicked in the co-workers apartment door and beat the crap out of her.

Both Smith and her partner in crime were fired by BK and convicted of the assault in February of 2009 in Cleveland County.

Smith was sentenced to 5-years deferred. Unfortunately for Smith she failed to appear for a ‘rule 8 non compliance hearing’ (regarding her ability to pay court imposed fines) and a warrant has been issued for her arrest.
